There is an amazing sense of freedom found in the open countryside. The possibilities seem endless. Every turn opens to a new unseen view. I found this scene while exploring Douglas Lake Ranch outside Merritt on a fine October day.
The light was low and golden that afternoon, stretching long shadows across the grassland. I stopped the car and just stood there for a while. The wind picked up just enough to bend the grass in long, slow waves. Days like this remind me why I keep coming back to places like this. You forget how big the world really is until you stand in the middle of it with nothing between you and the sky.
